Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) on January 5, 2025, in Rohini, Delhi, marking a major advancement in healthcare and the promotion of ancient medicine. Terming the initiative as 'Ayurveda's next big leap,' the Prime Minister congratulated the residents of Delhi on this milestone achievement.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Modi emphasized the government's commitment to making healthcare accessible to all, particularly the underprivileged. He highlighted the growing global acceptance of traditional Indian medicine systems like AYUSH and Ayurveda, which are now practiced in over 100 countries. The Prime Minister also mentioned the establishment of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) first traditional medicine center in India and the inauguration of the second phase of the All India Institute of Ayurveda.

He added that India holds immense potential to become the global hub for health and wellness, envisioning a future where the world embraces ‘Heal in India’ alongside ‘Make in India.’ To facilitate foreign nationals seeking AYUSH treatments, the government has introduced a special AYUSH visa, benefiting hundreds of international patients in a short span.

Driving Research and Healthcare Excellence

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, expressed gratitude for PM Modi's leadership and emphasized that the new institute would significantly advance research and healthcare. “This facility will make a lasting impact on millions of lives across the nation,” he remarked.

The event attended by Yogender Chandolia, Member of Parliament from North West Delhi, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, and other dignitaries. Chandolia highlighted the dual significance of the event, coinciding with the inauguration of a new Metro line in Delhi. He called both developments a "gift" from the government to the city's residents.

Central Ayurveda Research Institute: State-of-the-Art Facility

The new campus, spanning 2.92 acres and built with an investment of Rs 187 crore, will include a 100-bed research hospital. The facility aims to revolutionize Ayurveda by integrating traditional therapies with modern healthcare. Key features include specialized clinics for geriatrics, pediatrics, ENT, arthritis, preventive cardiology, and eye care. The institute will also provide traditional treatments like Panchakarma, Kshara Sutra, and Jalukavacharana, supported by advanced diagnostic technologies.

Established in 1979, the Central Ayurveda Research Institute has been a leader in clinical research, focusing on preventive cardiology and non-communicable diseases. After years of operating from rented premises in Punjabi Bagh, the institute now has a dedicated, state-of-the-art facility to further its mission.

The new campus will include an Administrative Block, Outpatient Department (OPD) Block, Inpatient Department (IPD) Block, and a Treatment Block, ensuring comprehensive healthcare services. Additionally, it will feature clinical laboratories, physiotherapy units, and a library to support research and education.

Empowering Youth and Ensuring Quality

The institute’s Panchakarma Technician Training Course, in collaboration with the Healthcare Sector Skill Council of India, will equip young professionals with specialized skills, boosting the Ayurveda sector. Accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) and the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), the facility promises to uphold the highest standards of quality and care.

Scheduled for completion within 30 months, this groundbreaking project is set to position India as a global leader in the integration of traditional and modern medicine.
