On December 1, 2024, in a groundbreaking moment at the Millionaire Farmer of India (MFOI) Awards 2024, the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Krishi Jagran. This partnership aims to expand and replicate the MFOI initiative in the 15 member countries of CIRDAP, significantly enhancing rural development efforts and agricultural innovations.
The MoU signing ceremony took place amidst the vibrant celebrations of the MFOI Awards at the iconic IARI Grounds, Pusa. Dr. P. Chandra Shekara, Director General of CIRDAP, lauded the initiative, expressing his optimism for agriculture’s future. “It’s a great day for all of us,” he said. “While I’ve long been associated with agriculture, the sector is often portrayed negatively, discouraging people from pursuing it as a career. However, initiatives like those by Krishi Jagran are inspiring, making agriculture a respected and aspirational profession. This collaboration will promote such initiatives across CIRDAP's member countries, spanning from India to the Fiji Islands.”
Dr. Shekara highlighted the intergovernmental organization’s dedication to rural development and its alignment with global agendas. “CIRDAP works tirelessly to enhance rural development across Asia and the Pacific. In 2025, July 6 has been declared Rural Development Day by the UN General Assembly, coinciding with CIRDAP’s foundation day. Through Krishi Jagran’s extensive network, we aim to reach rural communities and draw the attention of policymakers and leaders to the importance of sustainable rural growth. I extend my heartfelt thanks to MC Dominic, and all the farmers for giving us this opportunity.”
MC Dominic, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Krishi Jagran, echoed the sentiment, expressing his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “This MoU is a testament to the power of collective action in transforming rural landscapes. At Krishi Jagran, we believe in celebrating the resilience and ingenuity of farmers, and this partnership with CIRDAP will enable us to amplify these efforts globally. Together, we aim to inspire a new generation of agricultural leaders.”
CIRDAP, established in 1979 with support from the FAO and other UN bodies, has grown from six to 15 member countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, India, and Thailand. The organization operates through designated ministries and institutions in its member states, fostering regional cooperation and integrated rural development.
The MFOI Awards 2024, a landmark event honoring progressive farmers and showcasing cutting-edge agricultural innovations, provided the perfect backdrop for this pivotal partnership. As the event unfolds, this collaboration stands out as a beacon of hope for rural communities, promising sustainable growth and inspiring leadership across the Asia-Pacific region.
