The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) to enhance marine infrastructure and foster sustainable development along Kerala’s coast. This collaboration, facilitated under the state government’s Fisheries Department, is poised to advance coastal development in the state.
The MoU, inked by CMFRI Director Dr. Grinson George and KSCADC Managing Director P.I. Sheik Pareeth, will see CMFRI providing technical expertise to support KSCADC’s ambitious projects. These initiatives include the creation of marine hatcheries, aquariums, offshore structures, marine parks, sea cages, and artificial reefs.
CMFRI, a globally renowned institute, leads research in marine fisheries, addressing challenges such as climate change and human activity impacts. The institute is instrumental in promoting mariculture and sustainable fishery management, making it an ideal partner for KSCADC’s developmental aspirations.
On the other hand, KSCADC integrates socio-economic development with infrastructure advancements for Kerala’s coastal communities. With a focus on technological support and consultancy, the corporation strives to improve the livelihood of fishermen while ensuring environmental sustainability.
The partnership aims to enhance Kerala’s marine economy, empower coastal communities, and position the state as a leader in sustainable marine development.
