A deep depression over the Arabian Sea has intensified into cyclone Asna, off the coast of Kachchh and the adjoining areas of Pakistan, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Met Department said this is the first cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea in August since 1976. The name Asna has been given by Pakistan.
The IMD said the deep depression over the Kachchh coast and the adjoining areas of Pakistan and the northeast Arabian Sea moved westward, intensifying into a cyclonic storm 'Asna' that lay centered at 190 km west-northwest of Bhuj (Gujarat).
Torrential rains and floods in Gujarat have left 26 people dead during the last four days.
