According to a senior official with the department of town and country planning (DTCP), authorities in Sohna sealed three unlawfully built farmhouses on Tuesday, including one that belonged to popular Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi.
The illegal farmhouses were located near the lake's reservoir, and each of the three farms has now been sealed. This was an unauthorized construction in the Aravalli range, told a district town planner (DTP) familiar with the matter.
In conformity with the NGT's decisions in Sonya Gosh vs State of Haryana matter, a team of local administration along with the police assisted in the demolition-cum-sealing drive against three illegal structures.
In the presence of duty magistrate Lachhiram, Naib Tehsildar of Sohna, a team led by DTP Madholia and composed of ATP Sumeet Malik, Dinesh Singh, Rohan, and Shubham conducted the sealing drive.
Several news reports acknowledged that one of the three farmhouses, situated on roughly 1.5 acres of land, belonged to the singer Daler Mehndi.
Previously in July this year, Mehndi was awarded a two-year prison term for his involvement in a human trafficking case from 2003. Judge HS Grewal of the Patiala Additional Sessions issued the ruling and commanded Mehndi's immediate arrest. Daler Mehndi was arrested by the Punjab Police as soon as the sentence was announced.
Mehndi is charged with enticing people to travel abroad by portraying them as troupe members.
In the lawsuit, Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Singh are charged with accepting money to take people abroad against the law while disguising them as ‘troupe members’.
Along with the Indian Passport Act, Daler and Shamsher were charged under the IPC's sections for conspiracy and people trafficking.
In 2018, Daler Mehndi and Shamsher Singh were each sentenced for two years in prison, though they were later granted bail.
The case against Mehndi brothers was registered at the Patiala Sadar police station, wherein it was claimed that both the accused travelled with two troupes to the US in 1998 and 1999. It further said that nearly 10 members of this troupe, who were supposed to assist them during the trip, were 'dropped off' unlawfully in the foreign land.
