Dr. Ajay Ranka, Chairman and Managing Director of Zydex Group, was honored with the ‘Rasayan Udyog Shri’ award by the Indian Chemical Society for his outstanding contribution to the chemical industry. The recognition was presented at the 'Century of Chemistry in India-Celebration of Achievement of Indian Chemical Industries’ conference held at the Nehru Center, Mumbai, celebrating 100 years of India’s chemical advancements and their role in sustainability and economic growth.
The event, which focused on the Net Zero Goals, green energy, and the circular economy, brought together leading industry experts, academics, Nobel Laureates, students, international chemical societies, and Padma awardees.
Dr. Ranka, has been instrumental in revolutionizing the chemical sector with eco-friendly and innovative solutions. Since establishing Zydex in 1999, he has led the company to global success, with operations in over 40 countries and a workforce of more than 1,100 employees. His contributions span diverse sectors, including textiles, roads, waterproofing, paints, and agriculture, all driven by a commitment to sustainability.
A distinguished chemical engineer, Dr. Ranka holds a B.Tech from Nagpur University, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Detroit, and a Ph.D. in Polymer Science & Engineering from Lehigh University. After starting his career at PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, he returned to India to establish Zydex, introducing innovative products like Zycosil, a nanotechnology-based waterproofing solution known for its durability and cost-effectiveness.
His relentless pursuit of innovation has earned him numerous patents registered in 55 countries and prestigious awards, including India’s Best Innovation Award (2014) from the Marico Foundation, the International Road Federation’s Research Award (2013), and the CII Industrial Innovation Award (2018).
Receiving the ‘Rasayan Udyog Shri’ award reaffirms Dr. Ranka’s pivotal role in advancing sustainable chemistry. His vision continues to drive Zydex Industries in developing eco-friendly solutions that promote a safer, greener, and more resource-efficient world.
