Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal claimed that FDI in food processing industry has touched new heights. She added "When we took over the government in 2014, FDI in the food processing sector used to be USD 500 million every year. This year, we touched USD 1-billion mark. This is a tip of the iceberg, we have to go a long way." while addressing the CII event.
She added the focus of FDI in food processing industry is to bring giants like Metro and Walmark in a direct tie-up with farmers. In World Food India 2017 about USD 14 billion was pledged in the Food Processing Sector of which 70% of the projects have already started.
