In a bid to advance its initiative of facilitating 10 million households to transition to solar energy, the Indian government is actively preparing a workforce of 100,000 individuals skilled in the installation and management of solar panels.
This government rooftop solar project aims to empower households to generate up to 300 units of electricity through grid-connected solar panels.
Launched this February, the scheme provides subsidies of up to Rs 78,000 to households opting for solar power generating units. Moreover, state-owned REC Ltd, serving as the nodal agency for the revamped rooftop solar program, is expected to forge partnerships with institutions such as the National Power Training Institute and the National Skill Development Corporation for this purpose.
In addition to a skilled workforce, the initiative faces the challenge of sourcing a substantial number of vendors. The renewable energy ministry has recently transitioned to a new portal and is poised to initiate the national vendor registration process shortly. The 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana', allocated a budget of Rs 75,021 crore, is set for implementation through power distribution companies and vendors, offering rationalized subsidies and collateral-free loans.
Within a month of its launch, registrations under the scheme have surpassed millions.
