The Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (MoFAH&D), is hosting the Investors Meet 2024 on November 14, 2024, at the Taj Exotica, Swaraj Dweep in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The event, titled "Investment Opportunities in Fisheries and Aquaculture," aims to promote the vast potential of the islands for fisheries investment and development. It will be graced by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister of State George Kurian, Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, and Admiral D.K. Joshi, Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, among other key officials and dignitaries.
This high-profile event brings together around 60 investors from across India, with expertise in innovative technologies for Tuna and Seaweed production, along with officials from state and UT Fisheries Departments, scientists, and other industry stakeholders. It is set to provide a vital platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and business collaboration in fisheries and aquaculture.
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands, with an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) spanning approximately 6 lakh square kilometers, boast rich and largely untapped marine resources, particularly high-value Tuna species estimated at 60,000 metric tons. The islands’ close proximity to Southeast Asian markets facilitates seamless trade by sea and air, while the pristine waters offer a foundation for sustainable fishing practices and conservation.
Investors Meet 2024 will feature lead presentations, business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) discussions, and strategic planning sessions focused on public-private partnerships. Key objectives include attracting investment in infrastructure, technology transfer, skill development, and innovative practices to fuel growth in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
Interactive sessions are designed to showcase best practices, address private sector challenges, and encourage Southeast Asian networking for cross-border trade synergies.
The event will also show a development video for a proposed Tuna Cluster in the region, spotlighting efforts to establish Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a premier destination for sustainable fisheries investment and development.
