Hyundai, South Korean automaker and country’s second largest vehicle manufacturer on Tuesday launched its first fully electric SUV — Kona Electric, in India. Price of the vehicle is Rs. 25.30 lakh and it has a driving range of 452 km/charge.
S.S. Kim, MD and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited said that "India is escorting into a new era with clean and connected mobility. Hyundai is leading the future mobility solutions globally and will bring in the most applicable technology in the clean mobility space in the Indian market". He added that the Kona electric has received worldwide recognition and will be the most conducive e-vehicle for the Indian market.
The company said 'Kona’ Electric car is named after the Big Island of Hawaii i.e idyllic west-coast region. This region is popular among endurance triathletes as well as travelers, and this energetic picture is further reflected in the innovative and distinctive design of this eco-focused SUV.
How can we charge the car?
The driving range of this car is 452km/charge, after 452km we again need to charge the car before driving it again. So, the company will provide buyers with two chargers, a portable charger and an AC Wall Box Charger along with E car. The portable charger can be plugged into any normal 3-Pin 15 Amp socket that is available in our homes to charge our mobile phones and with the help of that portable charger we can charge the vehicle. This charger can top-up daily running of 50Km in less than three Hours. The AC Wall Box charger (7.2 kW) can charge the vehicle within 1 hour for running 50km. The company added that 80% charge can be achieved in 57 minutes with DC quick charger, using CCS Type II charging port, while a 7.2 kW Level-II charger can take upto 6 hours and 10 minutes.
The company is working with India Oil Corporation to develop charging infrastructure at select fuel Stations in four metropolitan cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai.
Warranty and Acceleration
The vehicle will come with a warranty for 3 years and unlimited kilometres. It will also have one year warranty and up to 160,000 km for its voltage battery.
The Kona can achieve an acceleration of 0-100 kmph in just 9.7 seconds.
