ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) has established a state-of-the-art Aquafeed Analytical and Quality Assurance Laboratory to ensure the production of high-quality aquafeed in the country. Accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) under the Quality Council of India, this facility underscores ICAR-CIBA's leadership in aquaculture feed development and quality assurance.
The newly accredited laboratory focuses on testing and certifying the quality of feed and feed ingredients, addressing the growing need for diversification and stringent quality control in aquaculture. As the demand for sustainable and high-performing aquafeed rises, this initiative will play a pivotal role in improving feed manufacturing processes and ensuring adherence to global standards.
ICAR-CIBA has experimental and commercial-scale feed mills that produce quality formulations. The VanamiPlus, LarviPlus, and ChengudiPlus series cater to shrimp farming, while the SeabassPlus line supports finfish species like seabass. These formulations are commercially produced through industry partnerships.
The laboratory aims to serve as a National Referral Center for aquafeed and feed ingredient testing. By establishing best practices and robust quality control processes, it ensures that feed manufacturers adopt scientific and reliable methods to enhance aquaculture productivity.
This initiative aligns with India’s focus on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture development, addressing the need for reliable feed solutions to meet global market demands.
ICAR-CIBA’s move not only strengthens its research capabilities but also supports the aquaculture sector’s growth, ensuring quality feed reaches farmers and stakeholders across the industry.
