The ICAR-Central Central Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres celebrated “National Girl Child Day” on January 24, 2022 through virtual mode in the backdrop of 75 years of Indian Independence - Azadi Ka Amirt Mahotsav.
Birth of Girl Child Should Be Greeted with Joy
Chairing the program, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore highlighted that the birth of a girl child should be greeted with joy and groomed to develop her full potential of every aspect of her personality.
By celebrating, protecting and educating the girl child, we empower her. By empowering our daughters, we empower the nation. He also emphasized that promoting gender equality is crucial to accelerating sustainable development.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Jayeeta Dasgupta, State Coordinator, Jan Sahas having experience in Human Resource Development, Health, Nutrition, Education & Livelihood, Gender, Rights & Social inclusion, interacted with the participants for raising awareness on a number of topics like rights of a girl child, importance of education, proper nutrition and health.
ICAR-CRIJAF Highlights Central & State Government Schemes For Girl Child
Dr. Debarati Datta, Scientist, ICAR-CRIJAF highlighted the different central and state government schemes for girl child under different ministries which aims to empower girl child and ensure that she lives a life of dignity and opportunity. Selfies of farm women with their girl child were taken to celebrate girl child day under #Deshkibeti.
Girl child of the institute’s staff, Ms. Shrestha Barua and Ms. Diksha Sarkar were conferred with Academic Excellence Award Certificate for outstanding performance in Class X and XII board exam.

The program was organized by women scientists Dr. Debarati Datta, Dr. Sonali Paul Mazumdar, Dr. Shamna A, Dr. Laxmi Sharma and Dr. Lavanya A.K. A total of 63 participants participated in the program.
