The ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna, is set to organize a two-day National Workshop titled ‘Strategies and Approaches for Greening Rice Fallow Areas’ on January 3-4, 2025. This event will focus on sustainable intensification and innovative solutions for transforming rice fallow lands, particularly in eastern India, which accounts for approximately 80% of the country’s rice fallow areas. These lands hold immense potential for boosting food production by cultivating pulses and oilseeds.

Eminent experts, researchers, and practitioners will converge to deliberate on strategies for converting rice fallow areas into productive and environmentally sustainable landscapes. Progressive farmers will also share their practical insights and innovative approaches to aid in the formulation of effective greening strategies.

In parallel, ICAR-RCER will host a Review Meeting of Foreign-Aided Projects under the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Division of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, on January 4, 2025. This review aims to assess the progress, evaluate impacts, and design future action plans for projects supported by international collaborations.

Dr. Anup Das, Director of ICAR-RCER, remarked, “These events aim to create a collaborative platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, foster partnerships, and develop sustainable agricultural strategies. The holistic development of rice fallow areas is vital for enhancing productivity while addressing ecological challenges in eastern India.”

The workshop will address critical issues related to the optimal use of rice fallow lands, while the review meeting will focus on the achievements and future planning of foreign-aided initiatives under the NRM Division.
