Kerala State Government is implementing Crop Insurance to farmers who suffer any kind of loss due to natural disaster. Crop Insurance is being held in the district from July 1 to 15 to get more farmers directly involved in the agricultural crop insurance scheme. Kalpetta Agriculture Assistant Director said that 27 varieties of crops can be insured through the respective Krishi Bhavan, subject to conditions.
If a farmer has at least ten coconut trees, then they can be insured at a price of Rs 2 per year and Rs 5 per three years. In case of crop loss due to natural disaster, a compensation of Rs 2000 per coconut will be provided. Palm trees can be insured with a premium of one rupee per year and two rupees for three years. Rs 200 per palm tree will be provided if the crop is destroyed due to any natural disaster.
Farmers should have at least 10 cents of land to cultivate crops. Paddy cultivation can also be insured at the rate of Rs 25 per cent for 25 cents through the Padasekhara Samiti or directly. The details regarding the scheme will be available at the respective Krishi Bhavan.
