Men are writing letters to Lord Indra while women are working in the fields, pleading for the rain to ease the current drought.

Women working in the fields in Madanpur village in Bhognipur tehsil in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh did puja to seek Lord Indra's blessings, the god of rain.

The women also conducted the ceremony known as "Bhauri," in which they carried different kitchen tools and offered prayers in temples.

Avanish Dubey, a local astrologer, stated, "Although this practice may be considered superstition in the modern era, it is still a widely held belief in this region that the rain god bestows abundant rainfall if women replace bull and plough fields. When Janak was king of the Videhas kingdom, it was known as Janakpur. "

"There was once a drought in the kingdom, which caused problems for the people. They all sought advice from King Janak regarding their issues. The people were promised by King Janak that he would use all possible means to relieve them of their problems."

Dubey added, "The king then invited all of his palace's priests to suggest some solutions. The king was then advised by one of the priests that in order for rain to fall, the rain god Indra must be appeased. And the king should personally plough the desolate land to please Indra. King Janak promised to plough the field right away. While ploughing the field, it rained heavily."

Since there hasn't been any rain in the area this season, paddy planting has been put off, upsetting the residents.

Sumit Kumar Yadav filed a complaint against Lord Indra with the tehsildar in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, asking for appropriate redress for the rains' delay.

Unexpectedly, the tehsildar has sent the complaint to senior officials for "suitable action."
