JMI Takes a Stand for Mother Earth: Celebrates World Environment Day with Zeal and Commitment

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated World Environment Day on May 22, 2023, showcasing its sustainable practices towards environmental conservation in the realm of tourism and hospitality.

Prof. Sarah Hussain, Head of the Department, shared her valuable thoughts on the significance of environment conservation and sustainable practices within the tourism and hospitality industry.

Prof. Nimit Chaudhary highlighted the importance of protecting the environment and responsible tourism. Dr Nusrat Yasmeen (Student Advisor), Dr Abdul Qadir, Dr Vijay Kumar Dev, and other faculty members provided their invaluable guidance and support for the success of the event.

The celebration began with an oath-taking ceremony, where faculty members and students pledged to safeguard and preserve the environment. To encourage creative expression and critical thinking, an essay writing competition was organized.

Participants were invited to share their perspectives on environmental conservation, sustainable tourism, and the role of the hospitality industry in promoting a greener future.

The tree plantation drive remained a significant highlight of the event, HoD Professor Sarah Hussain, faculty members, and students actively engaged in planting a diverse range of saplings. This endeavour not only beautified the campus but also contributed to the restoration of the local ecosystem, promoting biodiversity and creating a sustainable environment within the campus.

Throughout the celebration, the department emphasized the importance of responsible tourism and hospitality management. Faculty members conducted interactive sessions, engaging participants in thought-provoking discussions on sustainable practices and their impact on the environment.

This collaborative exchange of ideas enriched the learning experience and fostered a deeper understanding of the role each individual can play in creating a more sustainable future.
