Mumbai Rains
Mumbai is again experiencing heavy rainfall since Friday (26 July 2019) which has caused waterlogging in many parts of the city and suburbs. The weather department had issued an orange alert indicating that authorities must be alert & ready to take necessary action. An IMD official informed that “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Mumbai, Thane & Raigad districts, while extremely heavy rain is likely at isolated areas in Palghar district”. Many flights have been cancelled and several trains were diverted due to Mumbai rains.
A cyclonic circulation is visible over Southeast Rajasthan & neighboring West Madhya Pradesh. As a result there could be moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated very heavy spells over East & South-east Rajasthan & light to moderate with one or two heavy spells over West Rajasthan, few parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, Goa and South Gujarat. Scattered light showers with one or two moderate spells are likely over Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra with isolated rains over Kutch and Saurashtra.
In the meantime, a Low-Pressure has developed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjacent North Coastal Odisha. Hence, there will be moderate to heavy rains over South Odisha & light to moderate rainfall with one or two heavy spells over Varanasi, Prayagraj, Nawada, Gaya, Ranchi, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam & remaining areas of Odisha. Whereas, rest Northeast India will witness light to moderate rains.
Now talking about Northern India - humid easterly & south-easterlies are blowing all over the Northern plains of the country. Therefore, scattered rain along with thundershowers with light to moderate intensity is expected over Meerut, Bareilly, Muzaffarnagar, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi & North Rajasthan. On the other hand, rainfall will be comparatively less over Northwest Rajasthan & adjoining South-west Punjab.
Lastly in the Southern part of the country, a weak off-shore Trough is extending from Konkan & Goa to Karnataka Coast. As a result, moderate rainfall with one or two heavy spells will persist over Honnavar, Karwar & North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Also there will be scattered light to moderate rainfall over Kerala & Telangana including Hyderabad. Light showers at few places over interior parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu & Rayalaseema will also be seen.
