It's a Raksha Bandhan gift for the women of Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after he laid the foundation stone for the Manipur water supply project through video conferencing today on Thursday, 23 July.
Terming it a RakshaBandhan gift to women of Manipur PM Modi said, this project will give clean drinking water to Greater Imphal and 1,700 villages in Manipur and will work as a lifeline for them. It will also positively impact the lives of women in as many as one lakh families in the state, he said.
As per PM Modi, this project has been planned with the assistance of local panchayats and the residents and it is a commendable example of decentralization. This project will also generate employment for thousands of people living here, he included.
The outlay for the project is about Rs 3054.58 and is intended to give freshwater family unit tap connections to remaining families in the Greater Imphal Planning zone, 25 towns, and for 1,731 rural residences covering 2,80,756 families in 16 districts of Manipur.
The inauguration ceremony was virtually attended by Manipur Governor NajmaHeptulla, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, and his cabinet associates, MPs and MLAs.
