Ministry of Textiles has announced an extended timeline for compliance with Medical Textiles (Quality Control) Order, 2024, offering relief to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and manufacturers navigating the implementation of stringent quality standards.
Recognizing the operational challenges faced by SMEs, the government has granted them an extended compliance deadline until April 1, 2025. This decision specifically addresses three key items outlined in Schedule A of the order, allowing small-scale businesses the necessary time to adjust to the new standards without interrupting their operations.
This Quality Control Order (QCO) aims to ensure the safety and efficacy of critical medical textile products, including sanitary napkins, baby diapers, and reusable sanitary pads or period panties. By establishing rigorous testing protocols and labelling requirements, the Ministry seeks to elevate the quality benchmark in this essential sector.
In a parallel effort to facilitate a smoother industry-wide transition, the Ministry has introduced a six-month period, up to June 30, 2025, for manufacturers and importers to clear legacy stock. This provision ensures that existing inventory can be utilized efficiently, minimizing financial losses while adapting to the revised quality norms. The extended deadline aims to prioritize public health and safety while supporting the industry’s needs.
By empowering SMEs and larger manufacturers alike, the initiative is expected to build trust among consumers and strengthen the medical textile industry’s contribution to the healthcare ecosystem.
