The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 65,635 crore for 93 irrigation projects under the government’s flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayi Yojana (PMKSY). Overall the institution is funding 99 irrigation projects out of which 93 have been prioritized. Once the projects get completed, it would provide water to around 80 lakh hectares of agricultural land.
NABARD chairman H K Bhanwala said “All financial help will be given for the irrigation projects. The timely completion depends on state governments’ payment of their share of funds and Union Water Resources Ministry’s active role”. Bhanwala further explained that 18 irrigation projects are complete while 9 are near to completion. As per reports, Rs 23,402.72 crore has already been given for 86 projects.
It must be noted that maximum number of projects under PMKSY are allocated in Uttar Pradesh.
