A statement from the Railway Ministry said that President of India, Ram Nath Kovind will lay the foundation stone of Railway Station in Gujarat's Narmada district, Kevadiya today (15 December).
The President will also visit to the Statue of Unity in Narmada district. The railway station will be in the vicinity of the 182 meter tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October this year.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will also attend the event. The total cost for building the railway station is Rs 20 crore. It will directly provide rail connectivity to the tourists who will be visiting the Statue of Unity.
This railway station will come after the gauge conversion project of the 18-km long Dabhoi-Chandod section with an extension of the line upto Kevadiya by 32 km.
Interestingly, it will be the first railway station for Kevadiya having a small population of 6,788. It will be only 3.5 kilometers away from the Statue of Unity.
Presently, there is no direct air or train connectivity to Kevadiya.
