Regional Agriculture Fair-2023, a three-day fair organised by CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University and Alliance Bioversity International and International Centre for Tropical Agriculture and held at the university's playground, aims to promote agricultural advancements and improve farmers' livelihoods in mountainous regions.
Prof. Chaudhary commended the university for its pivotal contribution to the development of agriculture and animal husbandry in the country's hilly areas. Speaking about agricultural diversity, he emphasized the potential of floriculture and fish farming to significantly enhance farmers' incomes. He urged the university to focus on transferring research findings from laboratories to the fields, enabling farmers to adopt state-of-the-art practices and technologies.
Acknowledging the importance of sustainability, Prof. Chaudhary urged farmers to diversify their crops beyond grains and gradually transition to organic farming. He emphasized the need for graduates of the university to become proficient in modern agricultural techniques to boost productivity.
Joining the minister in his appreciation for the university's efforts, Chief Parliamentary Secretary of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj, Kishori Lal, highlighted the significance of its work.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. H.K. Chaudhary took the opportunity to showcase the university's achievements and revealed that the agricultural fair had not been held for a decade. Notably, 56 progressive farmers have been appointed as Krishi Doots, who will share their experiences and knowledge with fellow farmers and the youth.
Prof. H.K. Chaudhary also mentioned that the university's fruit nursery supplies plants to farmers within the state and other states. This year, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University secured the eighth position among agricultural universities in the country.
Furthermore, the university's graduates, totaling ten thousand students, are actively serving in various capacities throughout the nation and abroad. The university plays a crucial role in promoting agricultural productivity, producing 1000 quintals of breeder seeds for various state agencies to distribute among farmers. Currently, research projects worth Rs. 100 crores are being conducted at the university, emphasizing its commitment to furthering scientific advancements in the field of agriculture.
