A new scheme, ‘Sona Sobran Dhoti Saree Yojana’ has been launched for the rural community especially those below poverty line. The Jharkhand has introduced a scheme called 'Sona-Sobran Yojana' for the people in the state.
Under this scheme, families living below the poverty line will be given a saree and a dhoti or lungi. For this, BPL families will have to pay only Rs 10. Chief Minister Hemant Soren launched this special scheme from Dumka on 22nd September.
Around 57.10 lakh BPL families will be able to take the advantage of this government scheme. People who fall below the poverty line will be given a Saree & Dhoti or Lungi at a concessional rate of Rs 10 twice a year.
Hemant Soren Implemented this Scheme in 2014
The 'Sona Sobran Dhoti-Sari Scheme' was first started in 2014 by the then Chief Minister Hemant Soren itself. It was closed by the Raghubar Das-led government. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in its manifesto had promised to restart the “Sona Sobran Dhoti-Sari Scheme”.
Materials Distributed from PDS Shops
The Sarees and Dhoti to be distributed under this scheme will be distributed through the PDS (Public Distribution System) shops. Only the residents of Jharkhand will get the benefit from the scheme.
Documents Required
To take advantage of this scheme, it will be necessary to provide these documents mentioned below:

Original Residence Certificate.

Poverty line Card.
Those who do not have these documents will not be able to take advantage of the Sona-Sobran scheme.
Jharkhand Government’s Aim
The Soren government with the help of this scheme has set a target to meet the basic requirement of people i.e. Roti, Cloth & house. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had promised to re-implement the Sona-Sobran scheme in its election manifesto.
The state government is preparing to fulfill that promise now. A large number of people of the Jharkhand are deprived of basic facilities hence efforts are being made to provide necessary facilities to such underprivileged.
