On July 16, 2023, the 95th ICAR Foundation & Technology Day was inaugurated by Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy and Kailash Choudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. Later on, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar joined the stage through video conference. The event is taking place at Dr C. Subramaniam Auditorium, NASC Complex, from July 16 to July 18 in the presence of Kailash Choudhary and Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR, Sanjay Garg, Additional Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR, and Alka Arora, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor, DARE/ICAR.
Each year on July 16th, ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) commemorates its Foundation Day. However, this year, it has been designated as 'Foundation and Technology Day' to emphasize the significance of technology in agriculture. ICAR is an independent organization operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, part of the Government of India.
Its primary role is to coordinate, guide, and manage research and educational initiatives in various fields of agriculture, including horticulture, fisheries, and animal sciences. Across the nation, as many as 113 ICAR institutes and 74 agricultural universities are actively involved in conducting cutting-edge research in the realm of agricultural sciences.
The ICAR Foundation & Technology Day will feature a technology exhibition where 40 carefully selected innovations in agriculture will be showcased. The exhibition aims to enhance agricultural production, improve quality, and increase farmers' income by introducing novel technologies developed by various ICAR institutes. Sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture will be a significant focus, with eco-friendly technologies for crops like rice, wheat, maize, pulses, and more being highlighted. The exhibition will also emphasize mechanization, precision farming, and value-added products to promote advanced practices that maximize productivity and ensure environmental sustainability in agriculture.
The ICAR Foundation & Technology Day event will showcase the strong extension system and innovative education system of ICAR, aimed at promoting successful agriculture. The exhibition will not only highlight these aspects but also feature proven technologies recently developed for animal science, poultry, and fisheries. The main objective is to benefit stakeholders by providing them with valuable insights and opportunities. The exhibition will also present various technologies and products developed by ICAR Institutes that have the potential for commercialization.
Furthermore, the event is expected to attract approximately 100 industry partners who are keen on exploring the different technologies and products developed by ICAR Institutes and exploring future prospects for collaborations under the PPP Model. Additionally, the event saw participation from over 500 farmers, 1,000+ students, and various agricultural organizations, including Krishi Jagran, demonstrating the wide-ranging interest and engagement in the ICAR Foundation and Technology Day.
