The actor had been in the hospital for some time and was on life support. The body of Vikram Gokhale was kept at Bal Gandharva Sabagruha for family and friends to pay their respects. The actor's final rites were held today at the Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune at 6 p.m.
Earlier on Saturday, the PRO of the hospital where the veteran actor was being treated provided an update on his condition, stating that his health had "deteriorated." There were rumours about the veteran's death earlier this week, which his daughter denied.
During his lengthy career, Vikram Gokhale appeared in both Marathi and Hindi films, including Amitabh Bachchan's iconic Agneepath and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, starring Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Ajay Devgn.
In recent years, he has appeared in films such as Mission Mangal, Hichki, Aiyaari, Bang Bang!, De Dana Dan, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, to name a few. He also appeared in several TV shows during his more than 40-year career.
In 1971, Vikram Gokhale made his film debut in Amitabh Bachchan's Parwana. He won the National Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his performance in the Marathi film Anumati. He also made his directorial debut with the Marathi film Aaghaat.
In terms of recent work, the actor was most recently seen in the Marathi film Godavari. He appeared in Nikamma earlier this year, alongside Shilpa Shetty and Abhimanyu Dassani. A heartfelt tribute to Vikram Gokhale is given by Riteish Deshmukh, Darshan Kumar, Nana Patekar, Kamal Haasan, and many others.
