Weather Update: IMD Issues Alerts for Cold Wave, Dense Fog, and Rainfall Across Delhi, Punjab, Bihar, and Northeast India This Week

A cyclonic circulation and Western Disturbance are set to bring rain, snowfall, and temperature drops across parts of India, with dense fog and cold wave conditions persisting in several regions. Delhi-NCR will experience clear skies with light fog and smog during mornings and evenings.

India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast highlighting significant weather developments across the country. A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam is expected to bring light to moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms to the region. Additionally, a Western Disturbance is set to impact the Western Himalayan Region from January 29, 2025, likely causing scattered rainfall and snowfall on January 29 and 30.

A notable drop in temperatures is anticipated over Northwest and Central India, with minimum temperatures likely to dip by 2°C and 2–3°C, respectively, over the coming days. East India may witness a sharper decline of 3–5°C after 24 hours, while no major changes are forecast for the rest of the country.

The IMD predicts varying trends in minimum temperatures across the country:

Cold wave conditions are expected to affect isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on January 25. Dense fog is likely to persist in Gangetic West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, Manipur, Mizoram, and more. Meanwhile, cold day conditions are expected in Bihar on January 25 and 26.

In Delhi and NCR, the weather from January 25 to 27 is predicted to remain mostly clear. Light fog or mist is expected during morning hours, with smog likely to develop in the evening and night. Wind speeds are forecast to vary from 6 to 14 kmph, predominantly from the northwest direction, with gradual changes throughout the day.
