The beginning of 2020 has been quite snowy and rainy for various parts of India. The changes and fluctuation in the weather patterns are likely to affect the farmers, especially those who cultivate crops in the northern region.
According to the recent predictions, heavy snowfall is likely to shower in the hilly areas including Srinagar, Pahalgam, Kullu, Manali, Shimla and Nainital during the next 24 hours. Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand might also receive the light to moderate rain. North-eastern states like Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh are also expecting widespread rain and thunderstorms.
As the Western Disturbance is moving away, a significant drop in the temperatures is being recorded in these areas. With the movement of the system, the leftover of the system is causing the continuous showers and snow in the upper regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
It is anticipated that after this episode of western disturbance, the rain and snow might slow down and not many significant changes are foreseen. However, subdued or weaker western disturbances might be approaching to give isolated rain/snow.
The intensity of the rain/snowfall is expected to increase and there are chances of a few heavy spells for today. Tomorrow, the intensity of rain and snow is likely to remain heavier in Srinagar, Pahalgam, Kullu, Manali, Shimla, Kedarnath, Mussoorie, and Nainital until the morning.
A rather fun fact about the weather system at the beginning of this year is that the systems have been quite strong, leading to more dropping down of the temperatures as the days passed. The activities have been so strong that the state of Uttarakhand has received more than 300% of snowfall until now during this season.
