Weather Update Today: IMD Predicts Intense Rainfall Across Kerala, West Bengal, and Other Regions

Heavy rainfall is expected across Kerala, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and other regions, with warnings of potential flooding and disruptions. South Peninsular and Northeast India are on alert for intense downpours over the next week.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for several parts of India, forecasting heavy rainfall in the coming days. Kerala is expected to bear the heaviest impact of the rains, with some areas likely to experience extremely heavy downpours. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jharkhand, and several other regions are also on high alert for intense rainfall.

Key Areas Affected:

  • Kerala: The state is expected to experience heavy rainfall, with some areas likely to see extremely heavy downpours. Residents are advised to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone regions.

  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal: This region is likely to see isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall.

  • Jharkhand: Isolated areas are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, leading authorities to issue warnings for possible disruptions.

  • Other States: Heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated locations in Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka, and Bihar.

Rainfall Forecast (Next 7 Days)

South Peninsular India: Widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected across Lakshadweep, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and parts of Karnataka. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for Kerala and Mahe on October 8th, with further rain continuing throughout the week.

Northeast India: States like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also on alert for heavy rainfall between October 8th and 11th. Tripura is expected to see a significant downpour on October 8th.

Northwest, West, East & Central India: These regions will experience minimal rainfall, with no significant weather changes expected.

The forecast warns of possible disruptions due to flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Authorities advise caution, particularly in regions with a high risk of landslides or waterlogging.
