India has marked a significant milestone by establishing its own pavilion at the prestigious World Hydrogen Summit 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, from May 13 to 15, 2024. The India Pavilion, set up by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, is one of the largest pavilions at the Summit and has been inaugurated by Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Bhupinder S. Bhalla on May 12, 2024.
The World Hydrogen Summit is an important gathering in the global green hydrogen arena, expected to host over 15,000 delegates from across the globe. This initiative offers India a vital platform to exhibit its advancements in Green Hydrogen technology to the international community.
The Indian delegation comprises representatives from key ministries including New & Renewable Energy, Science and Technology, Railways, Petroleum and Natural Gas, alongside participation from private sector enterprises. This participation not only fosters governmental interactions but also facilitates significant engagement between Indian industry and global counterparts.
India's commitment to Green Hydrogen is demonstrated through the National Green Hydrogen Mission launched in January 2023, with an allocation of Rs. 19,744 crores. The mission aims to achieve a formidable green hydrogen production capacity of 5 million metric tonnes by the year 2030. Currently, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has granted tenders for developing 412,000 tonnes of Green Hydrogen production capacity and 1,500 MW of electrolyzer manufacturing capacity.
Moreover, India has formulated scheme guidelines promoting the use of Green Hydrogen in critical sectors such as steel, transport/mobility, and shipping. The Department of Science and Technology has kickstarted Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters to stimulate innovation and cultivate a robust Green Hydrogen ecosystem within India.
In a recent development, a dedicated portal for the National Green Hydrogen Mission has been launched, offering comprehensive information on the mission's objectives and progress. This portal serves as a centralized resource, accessible at nghm.mnre.gov.in, providing insights into India's endeavors towards fostering a sustainable Green Hydrogen ecosystem.
India's participation in the World Hydrogen Summit underscores its proactive stance towards embracing renewable energy solutions and aligning with global efforts to combat climate change through innovative technologies like Green Hydrogen.
