World Sustainable Development Summit, TERI's Annual Flagship Event Begins

The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS), the annual flagship event of TERI started at the Habitat Centre today with wonderful exhibition of the technologies & gadgets to strengthen the theme from 29-31 January, 2020 under the broad rubric, 'Towards 2030 Goals: Making the Decade Count', laying focus on the global efforts being made to meet our 2030 targets.

The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS), the annual flagship event of TERI started at the Habitat Centre today with wonderful exhibition of the technologies & gadgets to strengthen the theme from 29-31 January, 2020 under the broad rubric, 'Towards 2030 Goals: Making the Decade Count', laying focus on the global efforts being made to meet our 2030 targets.

The Summit has in its journey of 18 years i.e. 2001-2019 to become a focal point for global leaders & practitioners to assemble on a single platform to discuss & deliberate over climatic issues of universal importance. In its 2020 edition, the Summit will address broad themes of- circular economy, water, energy, industry transitions & e-mobility.

With an interesting line up of exclusive features like a business friendly session, fireside chats, cutting chai conversations, plenaries, thematic tracks & a clean-tech exhibition, WSDS 2020 will aim to expand the scope of its reach and involve many more stakeholders involved in the climate change fight.

The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) is The Energy and Resources Institute's  annual event. The theme of the 2020 edition of the Summit is 'Towards 2030 Goals: Making the Decade Count'.

The World Sustainable Development Summit brings together Nobel Laureates  political leaders, decision-makers from bilateral & multilateral institutions, business leaders, high-level functionaries from the diplomatic corps, scientists and researchers, media personnel, and members of civil society; on a common platform to deliberate on issues related to sustainable development.

Post the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the signing of the Paris Agreement,  the World Sustainable Development Summit aims to provide long-term solutions for the benefit of the global community  by assembling the various stakeholders on a single platform and initiating a step in the direction of achieving constructive action in combating issues pertinent to the future of humanity.

With following Features the WSDS shall discuss;

- Sustainable Action Dialogues Pre- events of WSDS: Summit pre-events hosted in geographical locations beyond the boundaries of India. Hosted in collaboration with a reputed organisation addressing issues of universal importance. Discussions are brought back to the WSDS platform in New Delhi.

- Regional Dialogues: A series of pre-events to be hosted in Indian cities around an identified theme. This series of Regional Dialogues seek to explore critical issues of the different region and identify solutions.

- Corporate Conclave: A platform for industry captains to brainstorm ideas for conducting business under the broad theme, ‘Fast Tracking Circularity through Innovative Financing’.

- IFAT Delhi 2020: An exhibition on clean technologies which will provide an opportunity for global players to showcase the technologies in the areas of waste management, water management in association with Messe Muenchen India (MMI).

- Sustainable Development Leadership Award (SDLA): Awarded every year since 2005 to an eminent global leader, felicitating their contributions in the field of sustainable development.

- Plenaries: Panel discussions designed around select themes of import – relating to the overall theme of the Summit. Speakers include policy makers, senior business leaders and academicians.

-Thematic Tracks: The thematic tracks allow for discussions on finer nuances of the Summit theme. These tracks are populated by domain experts and practitioners providing feasible solutions to challenges faced by local and global communities in maintaining the balance between securing environmental sustainability and development.

-Youth Volunteers Programme: To sensitize young students at the graduate level about issues of sustainability and climate change.
