  • "Spirit of Our Farmers is Similar to that of Indian Soldier," Says Narendra Singh Tomar

    Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has stated that the spirit of our farmers is similar to that of the Indian soldier, in that, just as soldiers protect the nation by standing bravely on the borders, our farmer brothers and sisters produce agricultural produce, making an exemplary contribution to Food Security. “We will not have food grains to fill our stomachs if farmers do not work in the fields, even if we have money. Farmers should be treated with respect because our agriculture sector is vital to 140 million Indians.” Tomar made the remarks on February 28 as the keynote speaker at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University's Third Convocation (Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar).

     

     

  • Punjab Farmers to Get Subsidies on Farm Equipment & Specialised Hiring Centres Establishment

    The government of Punjab is set to offer subsidies to the farmers in the state so they can set up specialty hiring facilities and buy a variety of agricultural equipment. The state's farmers can register for the subsidy online at agrimachinerypb.com by February 28 for individual applications as well as to establish specialized hiring centers, according to Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, minister of agriculture and farmers’ welfare.

     

  • Goa's Central Bureau of Communication Hosts Multimedia Exhibition Commemorating IYoM 2023

    On February 28, North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Nidhin Valsan opened the exhibition. The exhibition, which is open to the public until March 3rd, aims to educate visitors about the importance of millets and inspire their inclusion in daily diets. At the event, the ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute has also set up a stall where viewers can socialize with subject experts on millets and see live samples of the same. The institute is providing expertise on millets in the Goan context as a knowledge partner for the exhibition, including an overview of the historical and current state of affairs.

     

  • YSR Rythu Bharosa: CM Jagan Disburses Rs 1,000 Crore Under PM Kisan Scheme

    On Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy distributed funds for the YSR Rythu Bharosa-PM Kisan scheme for the fourth straight year by depositing Rs 1,090.76 crore into the bank accounts of 51.12 lakh individuals. During an event in Tenali, Guntur district, the CM did so by clicking a button in the Direct Benefit Transfer mode. "The state will be satisfied if the farmer is happy. As a result, the government is implementing effective farmer programmes, from which more than 50 lakh farmer households benefit," Jagan Mohan Reddy stated.

     

  • Farmer Unions Call for Separate State and Federal Budgets for Agriculture Sector

    On Wednesday, at Kisan Bhawan, a meeting of five farmer unions including Bharti Kisan Union Rajewal, All India Kisan Federation, Punjab Kisan Sangharsh Committee, Bharti Kisan Union, Mansa, and Azad Kisan Sangharash Committee took place. The farmer unions called for separate state and federal budgets for agriculture in order to increase public investment in the industry, which they claimed was being drastically reduced, and to put Dr. MS Swaminathan's suggestions into practice.
