  • Zambia Government & CIMMYT Enhance Collaboration for Agricultural Development

    CIMMYT Director General Bram Govaerts met with Minister of Agriculture Reuben Mtolo Phiri on January 17, 2023. The Minister informed Govaerts that CIMMYT's investments in the country have the full support of the government. Early this year, a group led by Cary Fowler, the United States' Special Envoy for Global Food Security, met with the Minister and his team in the Government Complex in Lusaka, Zambia's capital, to discuss a range of agricultural development concerns affecting the country.

     

  • ICAR-NDRI to Bring Back National Dairy Mela on April 8th After a 3-Year Hiatus

    The ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute will host the National Dairy Mela from April 8-10, after a three-year break, to showcase technological developments and raise awareness among dairy farmers. The event will feature milk supply and breed competitions, and include programs and seminars for farmers and stakeholders to address industry issues.The National Dairy Mela, which will last three days starting on April 8, will be hosted by the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) after a three-year hiatus. The most recent dairy mela was held from February 15–17, 2020. Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture, and Farmer Welfare Minister will officially inaugurate the mela, according to Dr. Dheer Singh, Director of NDRI.

     

  • Jal Jeevan Mission Quenches Thirst of Millions: Achieves 60% Coverage Milestone

    Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, 60% of rural families now have access to clean drinking water through taps. More than 1.55 lakh villages (25 percent of total number of villages) in India have reported 'Har Ghar Jal,' which means that every household in these villages has access to safe drinking water through taps on their property.Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, one tap connection is delivered per second from January to March 2023. This is a great achievement, as 86,894 additional tap water connections were delivered every day on average during the first three months of 2023.

     

  • J&K's Bold Move: Rs 560 Cr Project to Revolutionize Market Ecosystem in the Region

    The government of Jammu & Kashmir has announced a Rs 560 crore initiative under the Holistic Agricultural Development Programme (HADP) to reinforce current market infrastructure and develop a healthy market ecosystem in order to boost the region's economy and benefit farmers.The initiative intends to increase farmers' terms of trade (ToT), improve the efficiency and efficacy of the market ecology, and reduce value loss while optimizing society welfare. "The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a Rs 560 crore investment in agriculture and related sectors under the HADP to enhance the market ecosystem and benefit farmers and consumers," said Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture Production Department.

     

  • Bihar Govt Plans Incentives to Boost Organic Farming for a Greener Future

    Chemical-free farming is now practiced in 13 districts along the Ganga, and it will be expanded to additional places this year as part of the 4th agricultural road map, according to agriculture minister Kumar Sarvajeet.Inspired by farmers' response to organic farming in pilot project regions, Bihar's agriculture department has decided to begin a special incentive scheme to popularize the natural form of farming in all 38 districts, according to a state agriculture department senior officer.
