  • CNRI Secretary General and MSP Committee member Binod Anand lauds government’s move to hike MSP for kharif crops

    Anand, who hails from the cooperative sector, strongly advocated utilising PACS (Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society) for structural changes in procurement directly from farmers and democratization of the value chain. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the increase in MSP on June 7 2023, for all mandated Kharif crops for the marketing season 2023-24. As per the list released by PIB, GoI announced an increase in MSP rates for the crops of Paddy-Common, Paddy-Grade A, Jowar-Hybrid, Jowar-Maldandi^, Bajra, Ragi, Maize, Tur/Arhar, Moong, Urad, Moongfali (Groundnut), Sunflower seed, Soybean (yellow), Sesamum, Nigerseed, Cotton (Medium staple) and Cotton (Long Staple).

Farmers across the vast rain-fed areas are actively preparing their fields for sowing, utilizing the limited precipitation the district has received in recent times. According to the district administration, Raichur, situated between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, aims to sow crops on 5.41 lakh hectares out of the total cultivable land of 6.02 lakh hectares.

  • CSIR Scientists Dive into Lavender's Medicinal Potential Post 'Purple Revolution'

    Scientists at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine in Jammu are making significant progress in their study of lavender, a flowering plant that has sparked what is now known as the 'purple revolution' in the region. The institute is specifically focusing on the residue left behind after the extraction of lavender oil, which is obtained through a steam distillation process called 'marc'. This research has the potential to revolutionize the lavender farming industry and benefit the local farmers. Currently, lavender oil sells for approximately Rs 10,000 per liter, making it a lucrative crop for farmers in the region. However, the scientists at CSIR-IIIM are now concentrating on value-addition interventions and studying the waste produced during the oil extraction process.

  • FII & Kisan Chamber of Commerce Signs MoU to Develop Roadmap for Farmer Welfare

    In a significant move towards supporting farmers and promoting their welfare, the Federation of Indian Industry (FII) and the Kisan Chamber of Commerce (KCC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed by Suresh Deswal, the General Secretary of KCC, and Hitender Mehta, Chairman of the International Affairs Committee at FII. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Deepak Jain, Director General of FII, S Harbhajan Singh, President of FII's Haryana Chapter, Sompal Shastri, former MoS Ministry of Agriculture, and Birender Singh, former Union Steel Minister and Patron of FII.

    Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala, has embarked on a remarkable initiative called "Sagar Parikrama," which involves visiting coastal areas across the entire country along a predetermined sea route. The purpose of this journey is to meet with fishermen, fish farmers, and beneficiaries of various government schemes, allowing the minister to directly hear their issues and suggestions. The primary goal is to uplift the fisheries sector in the country for the benefit of the fishers and other stakeholders. The seventh phase will include visits to coastal areas of Kerala and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, encompassing locations such as Mangalore, Kasargode, Madakkara, Pallikkara, Chalium, Kanhangadu, Kozhikode, Mahe (Puducherry), Beypore, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kochi, and the islands of Lakshadweep, namely Kavaratti, Bangaram, and Agatti.
