  • Heavy rainfall Likely over several parts of Uttarakhand, Maharashtra: IMD

    The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain alert for several parts of Uttarakhand for tomorrow, 13th August. These areas that will receive heavy rainfall are Nainital, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Chamoli districts.

     

    The Uttarakhand Disaster Management Center has urged all District Magistrates in Uttarakhand to stay alert in the wake of IMD alert. Heavy rainfall is also expected in several parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai.

    Coronavirus Vaccine News: Russia has fulfilled its promise to develop the world’s first Covid-19 vaccine. On 11 August 2020, Russia announced that it had approved a vaccine being developed by Gamaleya Institute, Moscow.

     

    In a statement Sistema (a big Russian business house) said that the first batches of the vaccine were ready & it will be shortly shipped to different Russian provinces to be administered first to doctors & healthcare workers who mainly are at higher risk of infection.

  • Farmers’ claims worth Rs 34.92 crore Stuck under PMFBY

    As per latest reports, farmers’ claims worth Rs 34.92 crore under government’s crop insurance scheme known as Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana or PMFBY are stuck for the last three years as banks debited the premium from their accounts, but they were not covered under the yojana or insurance firms had not settled their claims for other seasons.

     

    The claims of around 7,500 farmers in Haryana were stuck after they faced crop losses because their crops were not covered under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana despite payment of premium.

  • Centre to make purchase of Bio-fertiliser mandatory with Urea

    The Centre is likely to make purchase of bio-fertiliser mandatory for every bag of urea a grower buys to promote organic nutrients & reduce the use of chemical fertilisers.

     

    A task force set up for promoting balanced & sustainable use of chemical fertilisers has recommended bundling bio-fertiliser with urea bags. It has urged government to promote drip-fertigation technique wherein fertiliser is incorporated within the irrigation water through drip system. It conserves 30 to 40 percent nutrients & cut down water use by 50 percent.
