  • Lac Cultivation: Chhattisgarh Government to Provide Loans & Free Training to Farmers

    Lac is found in a belt extending from Maharashtra to West Bengal, with Jharkhand producing the most, followed by Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Maharashtra. Chhattisgarh currently produces nearly 4,000 tons of lac, estimated at Rs 100 crore. To increase lac production and double farmers’ income, the state government is providing financial assistance. The goal is to help farmers earn Rs 250 crore by increasing lac production in the state to 10,000 tonnes. If the state government meets the target, it will be the country's largest producer of lac.

  • India's Edible Oil Import Bill Increases by 34% at Rs 1.57 lakh crore: SEA

    According to a report released on Monday by the Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA), India's edible oil import bill went up by 34.18% to Rs 1.57 lakh crore in the oil year that ended in October 2022. Meanwhile, in terms of volume, it has increased by 6.85% to 140.3 lakh tonnes. SEA estimated that India, the largest consumer of vegetable oil in the world, imported 131.3 lakh tonnes of edible oils for Rs 1.17 lakh crore in the previous oil year (November-October).

    In a meeting held on October 18, the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC), a regulatory body of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change had recommended the environmental release of the DMH-11 seed for trials, demonstrations, and seed productions under Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s supervision. A controversy has erupted over the environmental release of the hybrid seed variety Dhara Mustard Hybrid (DMH-11), which was created by the Delhi University's Centre for Genetic Manipulation of Crop Plants. The Supreme Court has received knocks from the anti-GM group. 

  • Farmers to Observe Nov 19 as Fateh Diwas to Celebrate Repeal of Farm Laws

    Dr. Darshan Pal, a member of the SKM coordination committee, provided details, stating that PM Modi had announced the repeal of the farm laws on November 19 of the previous year. As a result of our protest at the Delhi border forcing the PM to repeal these laws, unions will celebrate it as Fateh Diwas. The decisions were made at a SKM meeting held in New Delhi's Gurdwara Rakabganj. Pal, who also serves as the head of the Krantikari Kisan Union, said that farmers marched to the borders of Delhi on November 26, 2020. He added that on December 11, 2021, farmers returned home from the dharna site, and that day would be observed as "Vijay Diwas" as a result.

    Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today inaugurated the first Greenfield Farm Machinery Plant of Mahindra & Mahindra at Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh. On this occasion, Tomar said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today India has reached a point where the world looks at us with hopeful eyes. This New Farm Machinery Division of Mahindra & Mahindra is set up in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. Spread over an area of 23 acres is the biggest facility for farm equipment outside Punjab. This step will help Indian farmers towards mechanizing the farming process and will also farmers realize their dreams.
