Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that before 2017, the poor and underprivileged were denied benefits from ambitious government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), as previous governments divided society to reclaim "lost political ground" and increase their vote bank.

On Tuesday, the CM addressed a gathering of beneficiaries under the CM Awas Scheme and distributed the first installment to approximately 34,500 beneficiaries, saying, "Before 2017, even ambitious schemes like PMAY remained ineffectively implemented in the state, revealing the 'true intentions' of previous governments. They only divided society to get votes and didn't bother to help the weaker sections."

Yogi distributed Rs 143 crore as the first installment for 34,500 houses to be constructed at Rs 426.94 crore to the beneficiaries under the CM Awas Scheme (Rural) and keys to 39,000 houses (constructed at the cost of Rs 478.49 crore) to the beneficiaries.

The CM went on to say that on Tribal Pride Day, beneficiaries would receive gifts worth more than 905 crores. No one was allowed to intervene in any government scheme.

The CM slammed previous governments, claiming that the state government did not care to send proposals to the Centre in 2016. "We made certain that every beneficiary who was deprived under PMAY received shelter under the 'Mukhyamantri Awas Scheme.'"

So far, 45 lakh poor people, including 27 lakhs in rural areas and over 17 lakhs in urban areas, have been provided with houses through the PMAY scheme, he added.
