PMAY: Modi Inaugurates 5.21 lakh houses of PMAY Scheme Beneficiaries

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated 5.21 lakh houses of beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY)-Gramin in Madhya Pradesh while participating in the ‘Grah Pravesham’, a ceremony to hand over new houses to their owners.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 5.21 lakh houses of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY)-Gramin beneficiaries in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday while taking part in the 'Grah Pravesham,' a ceremony to hand over new houses to their owners.

Addressing the program via video conferencing, Modi said his government has given topmost priority to providing houses to the poor people.

According to him, 2.5 crore houses have been built throughout the country under the PMAY scheme, including two crores in rural areas.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, took part in the program from Chattarpur in the state.

On the occasion, PM Modi also stated that the country's Nal-Jal scheme has provided pure water tap connections to six crore families.

Furthermore, the current government in the nation has canceled nearly four crore fake ration cards since 2014 to avoid the theft of food grains worth crores meant for the poor, according to the PM.

"We have the policy to ensure that even the last man in the queue gets the benefit of government schemes," he said.

Modi also urged people to take a vow to construct 75 'Amrit Sarovars' (ponds) in each district of the country during the next 12 months, as the country celebrates its 75 years of its independence.

About Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY):

The Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY) is an initiative of the Government of India which aims at providing affordable housing to the urban poor by the year 2022. The scheme was first launched on 1 June 2015. The interest rate for the PMAY scheme starts at 6.50% p.a. and can be availed for tenure of up to 20 years. The last date for availing the PMAY CLSS scheme for the LIG and EWS categories has been extended to 31 March 2022.
