  • CIWA Empowers Women Farmers in Odisha with Sustainable Farming Technology

    In Bhubaneswar, scientists of the Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (CIWA) have developed a novel technology that will substantially benefit landless farmers by providing them with multi-sectoral income generation avenues. The technology-integrated vertical nutri-farming system (IVMFS) can be used for both indoor and outdoor farming. The system assures dietary diversity and household nutritional security to landless farm families.

     

  • Natural Farming Gains Popularity Among Farmers in Drought-Hit Kurnool District

    P N Maddileti from Kallur mandal said though farmers are getting nominal profits in natural farming, consumers are quite happy vis-a-vis the taste and quality of the produce. From 3,254 acres in 2015-16 to 66,800 in 2021-22 and to around 86,000 acres now, the area under natural farming increased. The utilization of pesticides has declined significantly from 453 metric tons in 2014-15 to 174 metric tonnes in 2021-22.

     

  • Agriculture Dept Predicts Wheat Yield to Exceed 160 Lakh Tonnes Despite Rain Loss

    In the current rabi season, the total wheat yield in Punjab is likely to exceed 160 lakh tonnes. Based on crop-cutting experiments, the state agriculture agency has estimated yield. It is fewer than the prior output forecasts of a bumper crop, when the yield was expected to exceed 175 lakh tonnes before the March 25 rain, high-velocity winds, and hailstorm.

     

  • Nepal to Organize Convention on Resilient Food Systems on April 24-25

    South Asian Policy Leadership for Improved Nutrition and Growth, a multi-stakeholder regional cooperation platform for food systems, will organise the Kathmandu Dialogue on food systems on April 24 and 25, the second in a series following the Dhaka Dialogue. Over 100 delegates from SAP-LING member nations- Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Bhutan, and Nepal-will debate regional collaboration and develop consensus for enhancing South Asia's food systems and nutrition.

  • Telangana's agriculture crops have been severely damaged by unseasonal rains.

    Agriculture crops in certain Telangana districts have been destroyed by unseasonal rains and hailstorms over the last two days. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao asked officials on Sunday to conduct an assessment of agricultural damage. Following crop loss caused by untimely rainfall in Choppadandi and Karimnagar rural mandals of Karimnagar district, as well as other parts of the state, the Chief Minister asked Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to assess crop damages. He requested that the Chief Secretary speak with District Collectors and obtain thorough agricultural damage reports.
