  • IGNOU & ICMAI Team Up to Offer Diploma in Agricultural Cost Management

    The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India have signed a memorandum of agreement to create an open and distance learning diploma programme in agricultural cost management. According to a formal statement, the credential seeks to empower farming communities with information, skills, and entrepreneurial potential in order to raise awareness of and develop human resources in agricultural cost management. The programme will be beneficial for farmers, small and medium entrepreneurs, youths, extension workers, members of cooperative societies, NGO functionaries/trainers, self-help groups, and others, it said.

     

  • Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory for Availing MSP on Cotton

    "An individual eligible for receiving benefits under the Scheme shall be required to furnish proof of possession of an Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication," according to a notification published by the Textiles Ministry on April 17. It further stated that this will take effect on the date it is published in the Official Gazette in all States and Union territories. The MSP for medium staple cotton is Rs 6,080 for the 2022-23 kharif season, while the MSP for long staple cotton is Rs 6,380. According to the notification, using Aadhaar as an identity document for the delivery of services, benefits, or subsidies streamlines government delivery processes, increases transparency and efficiency, and allows beneficiaries to receive their entitlements directly in a convenient and seamless manner by eliminating the need to produce multiple documents to prove one's identity.

     

  • Low Capsicum Prices Persist: Mansa Farmers Resort to Roadside Yield Dumping

    Capsicum growers are feeling the pinch as the glut of capsicum in the state has forced a decrease in the prices. Farmers have been protesting over this issue in the capsicum-growing districts almost on a daily basis since April 19. While capsicum is sold in the retail market at Rs 20-25 a kg, farmers of Mansa and Sangrur continue to get only Re 1 or Rs 2 a kg. Gora Singh Bhainibagha from Bhainibagha village of Mansa said, “We have no choice but to dump the yield on roads as a mark of protest. We have all the more reason to protest as the state government is silent on this matter,” He is also a state committee member of the Punjab Kisan Union.

     

  • 4-Month Farmers Orientation Programme Launched in J&K for Holistic Agriculture Development

    Over a period of the next five years, the Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP) has been rolled out with 29 proposed projects with an outlay of Rs 5,012 crores to be implemented. Additional Chief Secretary, APD, Atal Dulloo told: "Today, the department kick-started the 4-month orientation programme for the farmers under HADP, simultaneously across all the districts of the UT." He said that the orientation programme was held across 264 venues engaging close to 14,000 farmers across the Union Territory on the first day of the programme.

     

  • New e-Shram Portal Features Boosts Welfare Opportunities For Unorganized Workers

    The e-Shram Portal for unorganized workers has undergone a major revamp by the Central Government, with the aim of enhancing its effectiveness. The new features and facilities were launched on Monday by Union Minister for Labour, Bhupendra Yadav. The updated portal will now provide registered workers with access to a range of benefits, including employment opportunities, skills training, apprenticeships, pension schemes, digital skills, and state-specific schemes. In addition, the revamped portal allows migrant workers to register their family details, which will provide access to child education and women-centric schemes.
