Fungus

Fungi can be single-celled or multicellular microorganisms. They may be found in almost any type of habitat, although the majority dwell on land, primarily in the soil or on plant material, rather than in salt or fresh water. Decomposers are organisms that live in soil or on decaying plant materials and play a vital part in the cycling of carbon and other elements. Some plant parasites cause illnesses such as mildew, rust, scabs, and canker. Fungal infections in crops can cause significant financial loss for farmers. Fungi cause illness in animals in a relatively small percentage of cases. Skin illnesses such as athlete's foot, ringworm, and thrush are examples in humans.
