A pest is an organism that harms human or human-controlled interests, such as crop cultivation, animal rearing, and domestication.
Mosquitoes, rodents, and weeds are some examples of pests. Not all insects are pests. Many different types of insects eat other insects and are thus helpful species. Dragonflies (which mostly feed on mosquitoes) and lady beetles (which feed on mites, aphids, and other insects) are two examples of beneficial insects.
