The world is facing extreme climate change situations over the last several decades including acute rainfall, rising temperatures, frequent or untimely changes in season, and more. Apart from direct health issues, climate change has also led to a global food security challenge.
To award and appreciate those making positive contributions to address the issue, the first MS Swaminathan Global Leadership Award 2022 has been declared. The honor has been named after renowned Indian scientist Prof. MS Swaminathan, known for rescuing the country against the food shortage via his initiative called the Green Revolution in the late sixties. The award marks the contribution made in the field of sustainable development.
Underlining the need to boost sustainable growth in terms of climate change and food security, the Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) initiated the award and formed a well-profiled committee to select the suitable awardee amongst a long list of multiple candidates.
The Jury led by an honorable member of the NITI Aayog Dr. Ramesh Chand after several meetings decided to give the award to Dr. William Dar for his outstanding contributions to the development of sustainable agriculture on grounds of newer and precise technologies and policies, resulting in stronger food security conditions.
The Award would be presented to Dr. Dar on 10 November 2022 in New Delhi, as part of AgroWorld which starts on 9 Nov 2022. The event would be preceded by MS Swaminathan Global Dialogue on Climate Change and Food Security in the presence of prominent experts in the field.
