The most common pests that harm areca palms are mealybugs, scales, and spider mites. By sucking sap from the stem and leaves, they cause the plant to become spotted. If not addressed immediately, this causes yellowing of the leaves and can quickly kill the plant.
The funds will be used to implement preventive measures in Chikmagalur, Shivamogga, and other Malnad districts. On Sunday's arrival at the Hariharapura Helipad, Bommai told reporters that the government had sent a university team to study pests.
"A Central government team of experts has already conducted a study in Chikmagalur. Because the pest spreads from tree to tree due to rain and wind, the pesticide will be sprayed to remove the fungus. The government will follow all recommendations made by scientists to take preventive measures to control the spread of the pest," he said.
Earlier on November 15, the Karnataka Chief Minister stated that the state government is prepared to combat the spread of pest attacks in commercial crops and has taken numerous steps in that direction.
The government, according to CM Bommai, has doubled the input subsidy given to farmers for crop damage caused by natural disasters.
The Karnataka Chief Minister told reporters, "The Areca Nut in the Malnad region has been attacked by a specific pest, and the central government and the agencies concerned are working to find solutions to the pest."
The BJP leader stated that once agricultural scientists determine the root cause of the problem, the government will take appropriate action.
