Right training at the right time is important for farmers as it enhances their skills, and increases knowledge as well as productivity.
Keeping this in mind the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana is going to organize a one-week training programme on Goat Farming under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav from 6 June 2022 to 13 June 2022.
HoD, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma said that farmers of the state will be trained to keep their goats healthy all throughout the year. The other aspects of improved goat rearing/goat farming like better housing and feeding practices have direct implications on the income of millions of households as well as national food security.
Benefits of goat farming
Due to low input requirements, goat production highly suits unemployed youth, women, ex-servicemen etc. who can easily learn skills in this profession. Apart from meat, goat milk remains in high demand. There is huge scope in value addition and processing of goat milk and meat which can further enhance income.
Also, goats are adapted to a wide variety of climatic conditions and they are hardy in nature.
Goat has many specialties such as smaller size, easy handling, a broad range of eatables and wider climatic adaptability etc. which make it an animal of choice around the globe.
Goat Farming Training Details
During this training, knowledge will be provided about various breeds, breeding techniques, feeding management, shed designs, weather management, vaccination protocols, diseases and their prevention, value addition of milk and meat and economics of goat farming etc. Practical training on handling of goats, measuring body temperature, and signs of healthy animals will also be provided to the trainees.
This training programme will be organized at the Farmer Information Centre of the University. The interested candidates who want to pursue goat farming as a business enterprise can report at this Centre on 6 June 2022 at 9.00 AM.
