Today, farmers are being encouraged to do organic farming, such that productivity of the fields is maintained and people could get chemical-free food to eat. For this, it is important that we understand the importance and uses of organic fertilizers like Cow urine.
Cow Urine is a natural fertilizer that can supplement the nutrient value to the soil and help in the management of insects, pests and diseases under the organic production systems.
Siddharth Jaiswal, CEO of BPD Department of Birsa Agriculture University, says that “Cow Urine is a good natural liquid fertilizer and can be used directly for spraying the crop. Therefore it is important that we harness its goodness.” Various experiments are also being done regarding this. One such use is cow urine bank.
How Does a Cow Urine Bank Work?
Birsa Agriculture University has launched a Cow Urine Bank. Drums have been given to those farmers of the village located near Dublia, in which the farmers collect cow urine every day.
In this way the stock of cow urine gets stored and it is used whenever needed. The farmers can also deposit this Cow urine to the Bank. Those who deposit cow urine in this bank, can also easily get cow urine for cultivation when needed.
Siddharth Jaiswal said that due to the use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides for a long time, the amount of nutrition in vegetables has reduced significantly. Nutrition lost in vegetables and crops can be brought back by the use of cow urine and cow dung.
Benefits of Getting Cow Urine on Time:
Cow Urine is very effective if it is applied at the right time. Siddharth Jaiswal says cow urine is a very effective insecticide.
Therefore, it must be applied at the right time in case of any pest infestation in the field. If the Cow urine will be readily available with the farmers, they will not turn to chemical pesticides and this is where a Cow Urine Bank will be helpful.
