Before we get into the list of major fertilizers companies in India, let's first know more about the association created for the unionization of fertilizer companies and streamlining their operations.

Fertilizer Association of India (FAI)

The Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) is a non-profit, non-trading organization that primarily represents fertilizer producers, distributors, importers, equipment producers, research institutions, and input suppliers.

The Association was founded in 1955 with the purpose of uniting those involved in the manufacture, distribution, and use of fertilizers in order to:

  • Help the sector become more operationally efficient.

  • Find solutions to the issues that the agriculture and fertilizer industries are facing.

  • Encourage the wise and effective use of fertilizer.

  • Promote the consumption of more nutritious plant foods.

  • Encourage thought and conversation about all issues that affect good agriculture practices.

Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals

One of India's largest private fertilizer companies is Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited. It serves Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana as top fertilizer suppliers. 15 regional offices, 2,200 dealers, and 22,000 village-level outlets make up the company's network. The corporation also operates three pretty advanced nitrogenous fertilizer urea factories around the nation with an annual urea production capacity of over 3.4 million MT. These plants use cutting-edge technology in their production methods.

Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO)

One of India's largest multi-state cooperative societies, Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), is involved in the production and selling of fertilizers. More than 36,000 Indian member cooperatives, whose commercial interests range from general insurance to rural telecom, own the entire company. Over 7 million metric tonnes of production and over 19 million metric tonnes of sales were recorded during the fiscal year 2017–18. Over 55 million farmers in India are reached by its extensive marketing network. With various joint ventures, including JIFCO-Jordan, KIT-Dubai, OMIFCO-Oman, and ICS-Senegal, it has a global impact as well.

Madras Fertilisers Limited

The Government of India and AMOCO India Incorporation of the United States formed Madras Fertilizers Limited as a central public sector initiative. The Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, India, oversees its administrative operations. The company, which has its headquarters in Manali, Chennai, produces complex fertilizers, biofertilizers, urea, and ammonia.

Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO)

A multi-state cooperative society, Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd (KRIBHCO), was previously governed by the Indian government. Modern technology is applied in the fertilizer production process.

It actively participates in the implementation of numerous plans to increase production capacity and decrease the amount of energy used by its urea and ammonia plants. The business has also joined international joint ventures to broaden its global reach.

Coromandel

With a wide variety of fertilizers, retail, nutrients, and specialty nutrients in its portfolio, Coromandel International Limited is a major player in the phosphatic fertilizer industry in India. It became one of the biggest fertilizer companies in the nation during the fiscal year 2018–19 after recording an annual turnover of INR 13,240 Crore. Over 800 rural retail centers have been established by the organization in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. It has introduced a variety of organic fertilizers, and as a result, The Energy and Resources Institute named it one of India's top ten cleanest corporations (TERI).

Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited

An Indian company called Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals (DFPCL) produces fertilizers, crop nutrients, and industrial and agricultural chemicals. Additionally, it owns the real state. Since 1990, the business has marketed fertilizers under the "Mahadhan" brand name.

One of India's leading producers of chemicals is Deepak Fertilizers. It makes industrial chemicals, agricultural nutrition, and technical ammonium nitrate (mining chemicals). Explosives, mining, infrastructure, and healthcare all use these items.

Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, recently laid the cornerstone for a Rs 22 billion technological ammonium nitrate complex, according to Deepak Fertilizers' wholly-owned subsidiary Smartchem Technologies.

Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation Limited (HFCL)

The Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers oversees Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Limited (HFCL), a Government of India enterprise establishment. When the former FCIL & NFL Group of Companies was reorganized, it became a distinct corporation. The company's current business is urea manufacture. It runs through the many plants built in various places around India, including Barauni, Namrup, Durgapur, and Haldia.

Fertilizers & Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT)

One of the first companies in India to deal with the large-scale production of fertilizers is Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT). With its headquarters in Kochi, it is a major industry participant with a product portfolio that includes industrial equipment, petrochemicals, engineering, consulting, and fertilizers. It joined a joint venture with Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited and has two production facilities.
