Check out some beautiful underwater forests in the world;

Lake Volta, Ghana

  • The Lake Volta is a reservoir & is one of the world’s largest artificially created lakes, which is spread across an area of 3275 sq. ft. And, as per records, around 120 buildings were destroyed & around 78000 people, when the area was flooded, which led to the formation of this beautiful lake after the building of Akosombo Dam was completed in the year 1965.

  • One can witness, thousands of hardwood trees standing still, while there are many of them lurk near the surface.

Lake Kaindy, Kazakhstan

  • It is a 1300 ft long lake and is located around 6600 ft above sea level in Kolsai Lakes National Park, Kazakhstan. According to the reports, the 1911 Kebin earthquake triggered a major limestone landslide, which led to the formation of the lake, whereas the frigid water temperature of the lake helped to preserve the forest under the surface.

  • Here in this lake, you will see how toothpick-like trunks above the water’s surface seem barren, due to the exposure to various elements, whereas underneath, the story is completely different. The underneath sight is as spectacular as pale green algae cover the underwater trunks & branches of trees, where one can dive in & explore its beauty.

Caddo Lake, Texas

  • It is home to the world’s largest cypress forests, the Caddo Lake lies on the border between Texas & Louisiana. According to the geologist, the lake was formed thousands of years ago, when an enormous log jam on Red River created a dam & flooded the low-lying area where you find the lake.

  • It is a shallow lake & is completely filled with cypress tree that looks gorgeous as they are covered in Spanish moss. These trees are alive with special roots called Pneumatophores, which protrude above water to capture oxygen.

Clear Lake Forest, Oregon

  • It is located in the northwest US state of Oregon; the Clear Lake was formed by Lava flows that were common more than 7000 years ago. The flows, which created a natural dam that, flooded the area of a Clear Lake.

  • The lake now sits at an altitude of over 3000 ft, so its temperature is around the freezing point year-round & despite the cold temperatures, many people visit this place to swim through the ancient sunken forest that’s home to an array of the fascinating plants & animals.

Lake Periyar, India

  • Lake Periyar was formed, when the Mullaperiyar Dam was built in the year 1895, flooding the rough landscape & thick forest in the area. The site is now that of a sunken forest, where the dead trees stump, which once used to be a lush green forest.

  • People, who visit this area, will get to witness how snags & stumps rise dramatically out of water & tower over the surface of the lake in a weird way.
