Solar power is a strategic need for India today and development of sustainable domestic manufacturing industry serves national interests. An end-to-end domestic supply chain would be critical in making India’s solar equipment cost-competitive in the global market.

Capital and energy-intensive facilities of polysilicon, ingot, wafer, and cell manufacturing require greater support and protection from the central and state governments.

ASSOCHAM jointly with Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation and Auctus Advisors has conducted a study on ‘An Ecosystem for Solar Manufacturing in India’. For the efficacy of the study report, ASSOCHAM had consulted Solar Developers and Manufacturers, manufacturers of Module & Cell, Glass, EVA, and Backsheet manufacturers, encapsulants, polysilicon, wafer, etc. to comprehensively evaluate the gaps being faced by the industry.

The consultative process provided industry inputs and suggestions for decisive measures needed to promote an integrated, domestic solar PV manufacturing value chain.

Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi Secy MNRE and Dr Vandana Kumar JS Solar interacted with industry at a meeting held on April 19, 2022.
