The objective of the Webinar:

The main objective of this webinar is to cascade and raise awareness about Alzheimer’s, other forms of dementia, and related mental disorders and to disseminate knowledge and wisdom to promote healthy living with a focus on the prevention and wellness of such diseases.

Importance of Webinar:

  • Neurodegenerative disorders are one of the major public health problems and lead to psychological as well as economic burdens on the caregivers and nation. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 15 percent of the world’s population are mentally disabled with dementia, memory loss, anxiety, and stress-related disorders. Dementia is one of the leading contributors of disability in the elderly among all the neuropsychiatric conditions.

  • Alzheimer's disease, the most common cause of dementia among older adults, is a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning and behavioral abilities, and it adversely impacts a person’s daily life and activities.

  • India is currently undergoing through demographic transition phase wherein the aged population is rapidly growing. Mental health conditions of the elderly play a significant role in their morbidity and premature mortality.

In India, 5 out of every 100 elderly people have dementia and many more are at high risk. The nutritious diet, physical activities, social engagements, and mentally stimulating pursuits have all been associated with helping people to stay healthy as they are aging and it might also help reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
