Even though winters bring respite from the summers, other than really sweaty people, nobody really likes this season. Generally, people tend to dislike this weather because of the lack of sunlight, perpetual runny nose, dry skin, lack of socialization, itchy clothes, and seasonal affective disorder, which makes them feel sad and depressed.

In order to keep your spirits high this winter follow our exciting self-care tips.

Take advantage of the sunlight- In India, the winter season is the best time to absorb some Vitamin D from the sun. The heat from the sun during winter is really soothing and it also warms you up. We recommend doing your daily exercise outside during the winter. Therefore, take a stroll, go for a run, or even do a full cardio session outside in the sun.

Skip taking a bath every day- The cold weather makes us susceptible to fevers and cold, especially, when we take a shower every day. Showering lowers our body temperature and showering every day strips moisture away from our body and this makes our skin flaky and dry. Dermatologists recommend taking a bath every other day during winter because we don’t sweat a lot in winter and our skin doesn’t come in contact with dust and dirt. This practice will also help you retain your body heat.

Steady sleep schedule- Psychologists recommend that you should keep your sleep schedule steady even when staying in bed seems like a very tempting idea. A consistent sleep schedule helps us keep our energy levels up and our moods lifted.

It also ensures more sound sleep. On the other hand, irregular sleep patterns have been linked with obesity, headaches, heart diseases, hypertension, and elevated blood sugar levels.

Eat nourishing food- It is important that we all eat healthy food all year round. But during winter it is ok to treat yourself to more hearty meals with your favorite ingredients because it will lift your spirits. If you are interested in cooking, then you can even try a new dish every day that includes seasonal ingredients. Although we don’t recommend overindulging in food, we do encourage you to treat yourself to something sweet.

Start your day with a hot beverage- Start your day with either a hot cup of tea, coffee, plain water, or anything that wakes you up in the morning and gives you a jolt of energy.

Hydrate yourself- Since many of us don’t feel thirsty during winter, we forget to drink the required amount of water. However, our sinuses and airways become susceptible to infections like coughs and colds without proper water intake. You can try putting an alarm on your phone that reminds you to drink water.

Don’t cancel plans- Go out and socialize with people as often as you can. Prioritize spending quality time with people that bring you joy and inspire you to stay motivated. Even try making plans to go outside and explore places on your own.

Indulge in your hobbies and passions- Your mental well-being benefits greatly when you indulge in fun activities that bring you joy and pleasure because it counteracts your stress and anxieties. Try indulging in activities such as dancing, solving puzzles, painting, reading, and listening to music if that brings you joy.

Take some time off social media- While our digital devices are a great way to stay connected with our loved ones during winter, however, they can also trap us in our comfort place and even become a source of great stress. Therefore, try to achieve a balance between staying connected with your social media and spending time away from it.
